If there were ever a summer that needed a playlist, it’s the summer of 2021. With Covid-19 cases on a steady decline, vaccination rates up and states loosening their restrictions, it’s pretty evident that people are going to be ready to get after it in one way or another once the warm weather solstice arrives.

There’s a percolating pulse and an energy emanating from the general population as the hope of normal continues to rise stronger with the dawn of each new day.

Songs that will get you movin’

The rhythm of this sweeping vibe is a welcome wave of promise but it needs more than a steady drumbeat to keep the momentum going. Whether you are looking to pick up your morning running routine again, go out dancing, or finally take that summer road trip you’d planned for last year, there is one thing you will most certainly need. Music. A soundtrack that will get you hard charging up that hill at the most exhausting mile. Tunes that will keep you two-stepping on the dance floor ‘til the lights come on. A slew of cranking chords that demand the windows be rolled down on the highway to your vaca. Whatever your plans may be as things start to steadily swing back to normal, a melodious mantra is in order. So put your nineties mixed-tape thinking cap on and find your Ally McBeal theme song. It’s time to press play.

Five songs of summer for your consideration:

  1. “Summertime” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. Please have iced lemonade and sidewalk chalk on hand for this one.

  2. “Summer” by Calvin Harris. One verse set to slammin’ beats is all you need to get your groove on when this song plays.

  3. “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles. They nailed it. Every word.

  4. “Sun is Shining” by Bob Marley. This song comes to the rescue every time.

  5. “California Gurls” by Katy Perry. Two popsicles, a tube of SPF 30, and some Daisy Dukes please.
